What is a gummy smile?
Gummy Smile is when some people smile, their upper lip elevates too far above their upper teeth, exposing the pink gum tissue and producing an unattractive smile. This happens due to several causes including:
-
One of the causes is a hyperactive muscle which elevates the upper lip.
-
A thin upper lip known as high lip line. This further contributes to the problem by revealing the upper gum even more.
-
Teeth affected from altered passive eruption.
In most of the cases as long as the height of the teeth is much more than the pink gum when a person smiles or talks, it is acceptable to people. But, when this ratio changes in favour of more pink gum showing than the white teeth it can become unattractive, resulting in some people trying to improve their gummy smile.
How long will it last?
The procedure lasts around 4-6 months. A plan for regular follow-up treatments to maintain the initial result can be created for you. If you choose not to have this treatment again, it will not have any adverse effects on your skin, you will just develop the gummy smile as before.
What is the procedure?
It is administrated with a Botulinum toxin injection. A small amount of Botulinum toxin will be injected to weaken the muscles. Within a few days after treatment, elevation of the upper lip will reduce showing less gums and have much more confidence when smiling. The full result will be achieved 2 weeks after the treatment
